Western, Senior
Football/Running Back
Mueller, who didn’t play football as a junior so he could concentrate on baseball, has been a pleasant surprise for Western this season. Friday, he surprised Santa Margarita. Mueller scored touchdowns on a 56-yard run and a 23-yard pass reception in a 25-10 Western victory. He was the Pioneers’ leading rusher (115 yards), receiver (four catches for 35 yards) and had returns for 201 yards for a total of 351 yards. He also intercepted a pass. He did all this despite having problems with asthma. “We tried to spell him as much as we could,” Coach Jim Howell said, “but he still came on and played an outstanding game.”
