1995-1996: BOYS’ SOCCER / Soccer Preview : Six Teams To Watch : Santa Margarita
- Share via
Coach: Curt Bauer (fourth year).
1994-95: 21-2-3, 7-1-2 in the Sea View League; lost to Riverside Arlington in the second round of the Division III playoffs.
Key returners: Matt Blasdel, defender, all-league, Sr.; Chon Kantikovit, midfielder, second team Times’ all-county, Sr.; Matt Moses, forward, Jr.; Sean Spreen, goalkeeper, eight shutouts, 0.65 goals-against average, Sr.; Brian Piesner, forward, second team Times’ all-county, Sr.
Key newcomers: Bill Brennan, defender, Jr.; Byron Foss, goalkeeper, So.; Nick Sparks, sweeper, So.; Robert Taylor, midfielder, Sr.
Outlook: Even though Santa Margarita lost its best player, Seth George (UCLA), to graduation, it may have a better one this season in Piesner, who is being recruited by every major West Coast college. Santa Margarita’s only weakness might be on defense, where the Eagles are inexperienced but talented. But the offense might score enough to make up for any deficiencies in other areas. Expect the Eagles to battle El Toro for the Sea View League title and make a serious run at the Southern Section Division III title.
