Teen-Ager Killed in Elevator Mishap

A teen-age boy died Saturday afternoon in a freak apartment building elevator accident, authorities said.
Police were trying to piece together scant details Saturday night--early reports said the unidentified boy was decapitated in the incident, although police later said that he might have died as a result of another type of head injury.
The 4 p.m. incident, which took place on the fourth floor of a building in the 1200 block of North Vermont Avenue, was believed to be an accident, said Officer Don Cox, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
Cox said the boy’s mother called authorities, although it was unknown if she was with him when he was injured.
