3rd Time Wasn’t the Charm

OXNARD — When it comes to robbery, sometimes persistence doesn’t pay off.
Oxnard police Thursday arrested a man as he allegedly attempted to rob the same corner grocery store for the third time in three days.
Ricardo Figueroa, 25, robbed the C Street Market--just one block from the downtown police station--on Tuesday while brandishing a hammer, police said. He returned a little more than 24 hours later--about 1 p.m. Wednesday--with a handgun.
He showed up Thursday with a knife. Again at 1 p.m. This time, police were waiting.
“The officers didn’t think he’d be stupid enough to hit the same store a third time, but they figured they’d give it a try,” Sgt. Lee Wilcox said.
The Oxnard resident, who told police he was a heroin addict, was arrested for armed robbery and taken to Ventura County Jail. Police said Figueroa had stolen a total of $180 without injuring anyone.
“He thought he had a good thing going,” Officer Scott Hebert said.
