The popularity of the 1932 auto races at the Santa Ana Bowl inspired local boys to build soap-box cars.
The vehicles, made of soap-shipping cases affixed to toy wagons, inspired “push-car races” at the Santa Ana Bowl. Qualifying rounds were held Thursday afternoons to limit the number of youngsters in the Friday night races.
