Clarification Needed on Libertarian Candidate

* Re: “Smith, Scott, 37 Others File for State Primaries” [Nov. 30].
Your article on candidates for state legislative offices from the San Fernando Valley states that I am “seeking” my “party’s nomination.” This is not true. I am already the candidate of the Libertarian Party, chosen in caucus, for the 40th Assembly District. It is the state of California that requires that tax dollars be unnecessarily spent, and that my time be wasted on the filing procedures, so that I can run, unopposed, in the March 1996 primary. The Libertarian Party objects to this waste and contends that it is none of the state’s business how a political party nominates its candidates. You should pay attention to these issues.
KELLEY L. ROSS
Ross is the Libertarian Party candidate for state Assembly, 40th District.
