NEW YORK — A woman who was laid off from her job at the city’s Department of Aging has won $1 million in back pay and damages in an age discrimination suit.
A jury found that Joyce Stratton was let go from her job as director of the department’s central information and referral unit in 1991 mostly because of her age, then 61.
The jury also found that the city retaliated against her by refusing to rehire her because she filed an age discrimination claim.
