There was little surprise in the CIF Southern Section girls’ basketball playoff pairings Monday.
In Division I-AA, top-seeded Palos Verdes Peninsula (25-1) will face Los Alamitos, the Sunset League’s at-large team, in the first round.
Peninsula’s only loss was a 62-46 defeat to Fountain Valley.
Nationally ranked Irvine Woodbridge, seeded No. 1 in Division II-AA, has won 13 games in a row since its loss to Westminster.
During that streak, the Warriors (23-2) defeated Ventura Buena, 63-50, which was also nationally ranked at the time.
Mater Dei was top-seeded in Division I-A and rewarded with a bye in the first round. The Monarchs have a 20-game winning streak.
Marissa Bradley and Rochelle Anthony lead Brea Olinda (23-3), which was top seeded in Division II-A.
One of the Southland’s top teams, Cerritos Valley Christian (24-0), receives little attention because of the league it competes in, the Olympic, but the Crusaders are going for their fifth consecutive Southern Section title and ninth overall.
