Nation IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Way Cleared for Bailey to Go to Jail
- Share via
A federal appeals court in Atlanta cleared the way for F. Lee Bailey to be jailed as soon as a district judge gives the go-ahead for failing to turn over millions in cash and stock from a drug-dealer client. The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals sent the contempt-of-court case back to District Court Judge Maurice Paul in Ocala, Fla. Bailey says his client gave him $3 million in cash and $18.7 million in stock, now valued at $25 million, for legal fees and expenses. Prosecutors claim most of it belongs to the government as part of a forfeiture the drug dealer agreed to, and that Bailey was supposed to take only fees and expenses.
