Track and Field/High Jumper
Until last week, only two Orange County high school athletes had ever cleared 7 feet in the high jump--and both of them were from the Carlson family. Johnson, however, in his first meet of the season joined the exclusive group. Johnson, who cleared 6-10 and was the Orange County champion last year, cleared 7-0 on his second attempt during a dual meet at Cerritos Gahr High. Johnson failed to clear 7-2, which would have broken the county record of 7-1 held by Kevin Carlson of Katella. Brian Carlson, Kevin’s younger brother, also jumped 7-0 feet in high school.
