South Bay : RATHBUN ARRAIGNED

Photographer Charles Rathbun pleaded not guilty in Torrance Superior Court Tuesday to charges that he sexually assaulted and murdered Hermosa Beach model Linda Sobek.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Stephen Kay was granted a motion for a protective order that allows police and prosecutors to seal items such as Sobek’s diary, medical records and address book. Kay said the items are inadmissible in court and he is worried that if they are not sealed they could taint the jury pool.
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for May 17 to set a trial date for Rathbun.
Kay said he is pushing for a June trial date because “the family wants to bring closure to this case as quickly as possible.”
