Lauding Ladd

Judy Brennan’s article about the industry’s high regard for Alan Ladd Jr., producer of the Oscar-winning “Braveheart,” was right on the money (“Spoils From a Lost Battle Led to Ladd’s Biggest Victory,” March 29). However, only Laddie’s fellow executives were quoted. If you want to know the true nature of someone in Hollywood, ask those who take the messages and get the coffee. I had the pleasure of working for the great and generous Jay Kanter and Alan Ladd Jr. at MGM. So, to add a little frosting to the cake--let it be known that on Oscar night, when Laddie’s name was called, the “water-bearers” were cheering loudest of all.
