Gandhi’s Grandson to Lecture at Soka

Arun Gandhi, grandson of the late spiritual leader Mohandas “Mahatma” Gandhi, will speak about nonviolence Wednesday at Soka University.
The free lecture, titled “Non-Violence or Non-Existence: Options for the 21st Century,” will begin at 7 p.m. at the campus, 26800 W. Mulholland Highway in Calabasas.
Gandhi, who was born in 1934 in Durban, South Africa, helped found India’s Center for Social Unity, which is dedicated to alleviating poverty and helping members of the country’s untouchable caste become self-sufficient. He is the founder of the M.K. Gandhi Institute for Non-Violence at Christian Brothers University in Memphis.
Gandhi has written several books, including “A Patch of White,” released in 1979, which examined racism in South Africa.
A later book, “Moraji Papers,” related the rise and fall of the Janata Party in India.
