Council to Discuss Commuter Rail Station Project

Proposals for building and operating a commuter rail station to serve the Anaheim Canyon Business Center are among topics on the agenda for Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
The Anaheim Canyon station will be between the Riverside Freeway and La Palma Avenue, west of Tustin Avenue. When it opens, it will be one of seven stops on the Metrolink commuter rail corridor linking San Bernardino, Riverside, Anaheim, Tustin and Irvine.
“The Anaheim Canyon Business Center is one of the largest job centers in Southern California,” Mayor Tom Daly said, “and the new train station will help this major business complex stay strong and competitive.”
Most rail passengers using the new facility are expected to be Inland Empire residents who work in Anaheim, he said.
Funding for the station will be provided to the Southern California Regional Rail Authority by the Anaheim Redevelopment Agency. The rail authority may award a $635,000 construction contract for the station building this month.
Working with the Redevelopment Agency on the project is Catellus Development Corp., which owns land adjacent to the station site and will allow the public to cross that property to reach the facility.
