Bradley Continues to Improve After Stroke, Doctor Says

Former Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley continues to improve and he can now leave his bed and walk with the help of a nurse, his physician said Thursday at a news conference.
“We see a little progress each day,” Dr. Fred Alexander said at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Hollywood. “His spirits are good.”
Bradley, 78, still cannot speak. But Alexander was optimistic, and said, “In cases like this we’d expect to see some return of his speech. A lot depends on the patient’s will. And he has a very strong will.”
Still in the cardiac surgery unit, Bradley is undergoing intensive therapy, Alexander said.
Bradley, who served as the city’s mayor for 20 years, suffered a stroke last week after having open-heart surgery the previous day. He has been hospitalized since a heart attack last month.
Bradley is receiving five to 10 calls a day at the hospital from well-wishers, hospital officials say.
