She spoke no English, he no Korean. But words weren’t necessary for a U.S. Air Force Academy cadet dying of leukemia and his previously unknown Korean half-sister who came forward to try to save his life. “This is a real emotional time. It’s a bit overwhelming to meet a family I never knew I had,” senior cadet Brian Bauman said. Eun Sil Kim flew from Korea in hopes of being a suitable marrow donor for Bauman, who was diagnosed in October with chronic myelogenous leukemia. The two were separated when she was a teenager and Brian, now 21, a baby. She recognized him during a documentary on his plight. Bauman, born in South Korea, was given up for adoption.
