Charges Filed Against Woman Over Neglected Children

Felony child abuse charges were filed Tuesday against a 25-year-old pregnant woman accused of leaving her three children drenched in urine and feces and locked up in a filthy Western Avenue apartment in Los Angeles.
Patricia Quiroz, who is being held on $150,000 bail, is set to be arraigned today on three counts of child abuse.
Her 2- and 3-year-old daughters and 15-month-old son--who were discovered locked in the home amid squalid conditions Saturday night--have been taken into the care of the Department of Children’s Services. Quiroz was arrested Monday after calling police from a phone booth to turn herself in.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Marlene Sanchez of the Family Violence Division said Quiroz had a history of leaving her children alone, a charge also made by residents at the apartment where the woman lived.
