SEASON AT A GLANCE: Carroll, 15, has played No. 1 and No. 2 singles in selected matches for the Cougars, the No. 4 team in the Channel League. Two weeks ago, Carroll was a first-round winner in the Easter Bowl, a national junior invitational but lost in the second round. Carroll reached the quarterfinals of the consolation draw.

WEEK AT A GLANCE: At the 96th Ojai Valley tournament, Carroll became the first player from Ventura County to win the boys’ 16-and-under singles championship. Unseeded, Carroll won five matches in straight sets. He captured the title Saturday with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Chase Exon of Irvine.
