Glendenning Best in the WSC

Third baseman Mike Glendenning of Pierce College was chosen Western State Conference player of the year in a vote of WSC baseball coaches.
Glendenning set a conference record with 15 home runs, had 43 runs batted in and hit .371 in WSC play.
Glendenning shared the South Division player of the year award with Canyons outfielder Rick Nadeau, who won the conference batting title with a .455 average.
In the North Division, Oxnard pitcher Josh Towers, who had a 9-0 record and a 1.03 earned-run average, was named player of the year.
Pat Woods of Oxnard was selected North Division coach of the year and Len Mohney of Canyons was the South Division coach of the year.
Yachting
Kevin Hall of Ventura showed no signs Friday of the dehydration that forced him out of Thursday’s second race in the Laser class of the U.S. Olympic trials off Savannah, Ga.
Hall finished sixth and third in the two races, but is in fifth place, 42 points behind the leader, Nick Adamson of Newport Beach with four races remaining.
Softball
Cal Lutheran’s first-round game against Simpson College in the Division III Regional softball playoffs was rained out Friday in Indianola, Iowa. The game has been rescheduled for today at 10 a.m.
Basketball
Billy Jones, a 6-foot-5 swingman from Walker High in New Orleans, signed a letter of intent with Pepperdine, completing the Waves’ first recruiting class under Coach Lorenzo Romar.
Steve Snodgress has been named to replace Bob Davidson as boys’ basketball coach at Glendale High. Snodgress has been an assistant at Glendale for three years.
Volleyball
Granada Hills outside hitter Donald Puathasnanon and Chatsworth setter Mike Monge were selected co-players of the year in the Northwest Valley Conference.
Outside hitter Kevin Dawes and setter Art Salcedo, both of Sylmar, were chosen co-players of the year in the East Valley League.
Soccer
The Cal State Northridge men’s team has received commitments from Reseda midfielder William Diaz, Reseda sweeper Juan Gaudron and Westlake forward Mark Lamb.
