MALIBU — A 24-year-old Orange County man out for a morning ride on his motorcycle died Sunday after losing control on Mulholland Highway and hitting a fire hydrant, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Benjamin Shen of La Palma was killed instantly in the accident, said CHP Officer Garry Goldenberg.
Shen, who was wearing a helmet, ran a stop sign and failed to negotiate a curve before striking the hydrant at 80 to 90 mph, said Goldenberg. The accident happened at about 10 a.m. and did not involve any other vehicles.
Dan Aikin, an investigator with the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, said an autopsy had not been scheduled.
“It’s clear he had multiple traumatic injuries,” Aikin said. “That’s probably what we’ll write in our report.”
