*** Various Artists, “Trainspotting,” Capitol. This shrewdly assembled soundtrack doesn’t merge with the film it accompanies as explosively as “Natural Born Killers,” but it’s just as effective at capturing the thematic drive of the movie, alluding to the highs and lows of addiction via vintage selections such as Brian Eno’s woozily beautiful “Deep Blue Day” and Iggy Pop’s libidinal “Lust for Life” as well as the contemporary “trippiness” of dance tracks by Primal Scream and Bedrock featuring KYO.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
