Clerks Cited for Selling Cigarettes to Minors

Three liquor and convenience store clerks were cited for selling cigarettes to minors during an undercover sting operation Thursday, police said.
A 16-year-old police explorer went to various stores in the city and, while under surveillance by a team of officers, asked to buy cigarettes, said Officer Mike Kelly of the Huntington Beach Police Department.
The majority of the clerks properly asked for identification from the explorer, Kelly said.
But officers cited workers at Gold Star Liquor, 19171 Magnolia St.; 5 Points Liquor, 18685 Main St.; and Key Market, 20972 Brookhurst St.
If convicted, the clerks would pay a $200 fine for a first offense, or $500 or $1,000 for a second or third offense, respectively.
