Brilliant Venus is directly below Regulus, the brightest star in Leo, on Friday morning. The chart shows Venus, Regulus in Leo and fainter Mars in the eastern sky at 5:30 a.m. The bright stars Procyon in the Small Dog and Sirius in the Large Dog are to the south. Venus is moving eastward and away from Regulus, and the two are separating rapidly.
