Mother Sentenced in Infant’s Death

Re “Mother Sentenced to 18 Months in Crash That Killed Infant Son,” Sept. 26:
I was so glad to see that Lesia Smith-Pappas got the maximum sentence the law allows, for the death of her 3-month-old son, Alex. As a new mother, I would never ever put my child in a car seat that was not properly fastened. How that woman showed no remorse is despicable. For her to say that she “didn’t do anything wrong” is unbelievable. I hope someday she will take responsibility for what she did. Unfortunately, I truly believe that will never happen. She is a typical sociopath, she thinks she is above the law, driving without a license because she thought she is a good driver! Heaven help us.
Thank you, Judge Shari K. Silver, for your decision. I believe it is fair and just. We need more judges like you.

The judge who sentenced a mother to 18 months in prison for not strapping her children in committed a bigger crime than the defendant by depriving her children of their mother and her husband, who has had a heart attack, of his wife.
There is no worse punishment than to lose a child.
