New Rulers Defend Curbs on Women

Afghanistan’s new Taliban rulers rejected international concern over their restrictions on women’s rights, saying they will not compromise the Islamic pillars of their policies. But U.N. and other aid groups said after meeting acting Foreign Minister Mullah Mohammed Ghous that there was some room for maneuvering that would let them resume operations employing and supporting women.
