National Award for Training Leaders

Mary Lou Gomez, a longtime board member of the nonprofit La Habra Neighborhood Housing Services, has been honored with a national award for developing leadership programs in low-income neighborhoods.
The 1996 Dorothy Richardson Award was recently given to Gomez by the Neighborhood Reinvention Corp. The nonprofit group, chartered by Congress, helps establish community housing groups nationwide. The award includes a $5,000 grant for the La Habra organization.
Gomez has been a member of the board of directors for 10 years and has trained low-income residents to become community leaders.
