Rancho Alamitos probably didn’t expect to see Pacifica again. The Vaqueros mercilessly blitzed Pacifica quarterback J.D. Stern and eked out a 10-7 victory over the Mariners in Week 6. But the Mariners have gone to a two-back set with Jeff Burt at fullback and Paul Tessier at halfback and, thus, aren’t as dependent on the pass. “We probably don’t have the surprise element we had the first time around,” Rancho Alamitos Coach Doug Case said of his defensive scheme. “The key is still to pressure the quarterback and play solid defense.” The key for Pacifica in this Division VIII semifinal is containing Leo Kosi.
