Valencia Beats Canyon With Goal in Overtime

Joanna Bresnahan scored with 22 seconds left in overtime to give Valencia an 11-10 victory over Canyon Tuesday in nonleague girls’ water polo.
Brianna Foulds had five goals to lead Valencia (1-1). Jackie Tran scored five for visiting Canyon (1-1).
In other nonleague girls’ water polo:
Foothill 13, Mission Viejo 3--Rebecca Meurs scored six goals for Foothill (1-0).
Mater Dei 14, Huntington Beach 7--Nicole Norris scored four goals as Mater Dei defeated Huntington Beach. Jenny Charlesworth had three goals for Mater Dei (1-1).
Savanna 14, Ocean View 9 (OT)--Chrissy Holt scored 11 goals for Savanna (1-0), which rallied from a 7-1 deficit in the third and fourth quarters to tie it, 9-9, and force overtime.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Aliso Niguel 2, Ocean View 1--Jose Pineda and Matt Frankos scored second-half goals for Aliso Niguel, which trailed, 1-0, at the half.
Brea Olinda 3, Sunny Hills 0--Brandon Tellez had two goals and Dave Zachary one for Brea Olinda (1-0).
Cypress 3, Los Alamitos 1--Miguel Flores scored the winner for Cypress (2-0). Centurions goalkeeper Matt Resor had 11 saves. Tim Willemse scored for Los Alamitos (0-1).
El Modena 3, Rialto Eisenhower 0--Martin Carrington scored two goals for El Modena (1-0).
Esperanza 2, Valencia 0--Mike Murphy and David Munoz scored for visiting Esperanza (1-0).
Estancia 4, Calvary Chapel 0--Jose Quintana scored two goals for Estancia (1-1).
Foothill 0, El Dorado 0--Nick Adams had three saves for Foothill and Mark Wade had three for El Dorado.
Katella 1, Savanna 0--Juan Martinez had four saves for Katella (1-0). Jacob Irving scored the Knights’ goal.
Kennedy 3, Garden Grove 0--Joey Martinez scored two goals and Abe Shakolas had the other for Kennedy (1-0).
La Habra 1, Whittier California 0--Goalkeeper Aaron Scott made 17 saves--eight of them diving--for La Habra. Eric Angus, on an assist by Miguel Perez, scored in the first half for the Highlanders (1-0).
Orange 1, Edison 0--Victor Diaz, on an assist by Jose Lopez, scored the winning goal from 20 yards in the first half. Neil Van Zuiden had two saves for Orange (1-0), which beat Edison for the first time.
San Clemente 1, Corona del Mar 0--Daryl Boyer scored with 20 minutes left for San Clemente (2-0), which played with 10 players most of the game.
Santa Ana 3, Loara 2--Jorge Zarate and Jose Sorto each scored a goal in the first four minutes of Santa Ana’s season-opening victory over Loara (0-2).
University 1, Long Beach Poly 1--Jason Buchea scored in the last minute to tie the score for University (1-0-1).
Westminster 1, Pacifica 0--Leo Gimenez scored with five minutes remaining for Westminster (1-0).
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Estancia 2, Loara 0--Jennifer Brumick and Becca Silva each scored a goal for Estancia (2-0). Goalie Kelly Miller had two saves in her second consecutive shutout.
Woodbridge 2, San Clemente 0--Coral Bain and Lizzy Lemire each scored a second-half goal for Woodbridge (1-0). Goalie Sandra Martinez had one save for the Warriors.
