Inyo County Quake Upgraded to Magnitude 5.3, the Year’s Strongest

Earthquake scientists at Caltech have upgraded the magnitude of last week’s Inyo County earthquake 30 miles north of Ridgecrest from 5.0 to 5.3, making it the most powerful earthquake in California this year. There was no reported damage.
Seismologist Egill Hauksson said the Nov. 27 quake had been reevaluated, based on reports from more monitoring stations.
Hundreds of aftershocks have rattled the unpopulated desert area, about 130 north of Los Angeles, including a magnitude 3.5 quake Friday at 10:30 a.m.
