Former Defense Minister Lee Yang Ho was sentenced to four years in jail on charges of bribery and leaking military secrets, a court official said in Seoul. Lee was fired in October and arrested later that month on charges of accepting $180,000 as his cut of alleged payments from Daewoo Heavy Industries to an arms merchant in connection with the purchase of military helicopters. The court also handed down a two-year jail sentence, suspended for three years, to Sok Chin Chol, the former president of Daewoo Heavy Industries who now heads the Daewoo Group’s car subsidiary in Poland.
