Babayan’s Penalty Kick Gives Glendale Leg Up

Vaagn Babayan scored on a penalty kick in the 47th minute to give Glendale High a 3-2 boys’ soccer victory over Burroughs on Friday at Burroughs.
Artour Mirzakhanian scored in the 12th minute and Jefferson Pinzon scored in the 32nd for the Dynamiters (6-3).
Roman Browne scored twice for Burroughs (5-1-1).
Simi Valley 1, Westlake 0--Forward John Gonzalez scored his third match-winning goal of the season in the 30th minute.
Simi Valley (5-0-1, 2-0 in league play) recorded its fifth consecutive shutout.
Royal 3, Agoura 0--Kendall Simmonds, Ryan Walker and Shaun Neff scored for the Highlanders (2-1-1, 1-1) in a Marmonte League match at Royal.
Bryan Pelto made 10 saves for Agoura (2-1-1, 1-1).
Littlerock 4, Barstow 3--Tim Cea had three goals for the Lobos (5-2-1), including the match winner on a penalty kick with five minutes to play at Barstow.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Notre Dame 4, Calabasas 0--Tiffany Thompson, Megan Quinn, Melissa Rubey and Michelle Fonseca scored first-half goals for the Knights (5-4) at Notre Dame.
Desert Christian 1, Lancaster 1--Kristy Hamilton scored in the 60th minute after intercepting a Desert Christian clearing pass to give the Eagles (2-4-1) a tie at Lancaster.
Birmingham 4, Cleveland 1--Kris Oakes scored three goals for the Braves (2-2) in the first round of the Narbonne tournament.
Oakes scored unassisted goals in the eighth and 12th minutes, and added a goal on a crossing pass from Lisa Dusst.
Channel Islands 1, Newbury Park 1--Natalie Paniagua’s goal late in overtime pulled the Raiders (2-1, 1-1) into a Marmonte League tie at Newbury Park. Channel Islands had not won or tied a league match in three seasons.
Missy Calvelage scored early in overtime for Newbury Park (1-3-2, 0-1-1).
Agoura 2, Royal 0--Christine Larralde and Jennifer Graham scored for the Chargers (6-0, 2-0) in a Marmonte League match at Agoura.
