A 4-year-old girl was in guarded condition Wednesday after a three-car traffic collision in South Los Angeles in which six other people were injured, a city Fire Department spokesman said.
The girl’s father, 33-year-old Hector Rodas, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police also were investigating reports that Rodas may have run a red light in his van before colliding with a sedan, said Lt. Emmanuel Hernandez of the LAPD’s South Traffic Division.
The two cars collided at Vernon and Normandie avenues at about 5 p.m. and then slid across the intersection and into a third car that had been waiting at the traffic signal, Hernandez said.
Police said they were investigating why the 4-year-old was thrown through an open window despite reportedly being seated in a child safety seat.
Her 6-year-old brother suffered a broken collarbone, while other passengers in the three cars suffered minor injuries.
The girl was hospitalized at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
