In other men’s basketball games:
Antelope Valley 98, Desert 76--Sophomore forward Jonathan George had 22 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman guard John Burrell scored 19 points for the Marauders in a Foothill Conference Northern Division game at Lancaster.
Sophomore center Shaun Murray had 16 points and seven rebounds for Antelope Valley (22-4, 3-0), ranked fourth in the state.
Valley 59, Bakersfield 58--Benny Hoang sank a free throw with one second remaining for the Monarchs (17-9, 3-1) in a WSC Southern Division game at Bakersfield (9-14, 0-4).
Hoang finished with a career-high 18 points.
The Master’s 81, Christian Heritage 58--Mike Penberthy scored 27 of his 34 points in the second half to pace the Mustangs in a Southwest Region Independent Conference game at Master’s.
Penberthy made eight of 14 three-point shots to help the Mustangs (14-7, 1-1) avenge a 76-74 loss to Christian Heritage (13-11, 1-1) two weeks ago.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ventura 94, Santa Barbara 56--Adria Sneed had 20 points and 11 rebounds, Cindi Jensen had 19 points and Amirah Leonard scored 18 for the Pirates (25-1, 4-0) in a WSC Northern Division game at Santa Barbara.
Valley 62, Bakersfield 61--Jacque Tennies scored the winning layup with four seconds remaining in a WSC Southern Division game at Bakersfield (9-13, 4-2).
Tanya McGlaughlin had 20 points for Valley (18-8, 5-0).
Moorpark 76, Hancock 73--Two free throws by Corey Phillips provided the final margin for Moorpark (14-8, 3-1) in a WSC Northern Division game.
Northern Arizona 64, CS Northridge 61--Tammie Mills scored 25 points but it wasn’t enough for the Matadors (3-16, 1-7) in a Big Sky Conference game at Northern Arizona (11-7, 5-3).
The Master’s 83, Christian Heritage 65--Amy Williams had 20 points and Sara Herkenhoff scored a season-high 16 points for the Mustangs (13-10, 1-0) in a Southwest Region Independent Conference game at Master’s.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal Lutheran 5, Caltech 4--Jill Embree and Karrie Matson won their singles matches and teamed for a doubles victory to lead the Regals (1-0) at home in their season opener.
Pepperdine 8, Loyola Marymount 0--The Waves’ Nadine Rastetter was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Amy Labetich at No. 6 singles in a West Coast Conference match at Pepperdine (3-0).
CS Northridge 5, Westmont 4--Amy Petersen and Tracy Talaid each recorded straight-set singles victories for the Matadors (1-0) in a nonconference match at Northridge.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 5, California 2--Simon Aspelin cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Bobby Mahal at No. 1 singles and the No. 6-ranked Waves (6-1) swept in doubles in a nonconference match at Pepperdine.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Pepperdine 153, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 147--Jen Antimarino won the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles and swam the third leg on the victorious 400 freestyle relay to pace the Waves in a nonconference meet at Pepperdine.
