Let’s See, Simers Keeps the NFL Away?

Upon further review, it is now obvious why L.A. does not have an NFL team . . . T.J. Simers.
Yep, his drivel in Thursday’s Times confirmed it. The NFL powers-that-be are ignoring L.A. because of Simers’ obsessive bashing of the Packers over a blown call against Simers’ beloved 49ers.
Hey, Simers! Did you see the rematch? The NFC West championship game? The infamous Mud Bowl at Lambeau? The best team won . . . again.
Will someone at The Times please take away Simers’ crayons so someone in L.A. can get a return phone call from Paul Tagliabue?

Here we go again, a sportswriter [T.J. Simers in “Coliseum Concept Turning Stale”] speaking as if for the rest of us in panting after the return of the NFL to Los Angeles. The NFL owners and various sportswriters apparently don’t get it.
Many Los Angelenos simply don’t care if there is professional football here. We don’t need a pro sports team as an ego enhancement to prove L.A. is a great city. We don’t need the NFL for any dollar enhancement, either. Pro sports is not even a major industry and produces few jobs or other benefits.
If the NFL should ever return to L.A., the Coliseum must be the spot. One of the owners is quoted as likening playing a game there to a “vacation in Beirut.” What kind of slur on the neighborhood and our city is that? The Coliseum must not only be the spot, but no public money should be used in support of any NFL owner. We don’t need another stadium in Los Angeles.
