Narcotics detectives happened upon 188 marijuana plants inside a home while working on an unrelated investigation, police said Friday.
Alvaro Martinez, 29, of Westminster and Jason Heatley, 20, of Fullerton were arrested on suspicion of cultivating marijuana after police found a crop with an estimated value of $40,000 inside their house Thursday night, a police spokesman said.
Detectives were going door to door to interview neighbors in the 15400 block of Webster Street during an investigation of an alleged methamphetamine lab nearby. While talking to a man four doors down from the suspected lab, police saw what appeared to be marijuana plants inside his home and obtained a search warrant.
Police said they returned to the home about 7:30 p.m. the same day to serve the search warrant and seized 188 marijuana plants, which could yield about 75 pounds of the drug.
