CSUN Prevails Behind Big Bats

Freshman Dan Pierce drove in four runs and Terrmel Sledge and Jose Miranda each had two RBIs to lead Cal State Northridge over New Mexico, 10-6, Thursday in the Hawaii baseball tournament.
Pierce had two hits, including a two-run triple to highlight a five-run fourth inning. He also had a stolen base.
Sledge was three for five and Miranda had a run-scoring single in the first.
Carey Novits (2-0) allowed seven hits and struck out two in five innings. Brian Downing pitched three scoreless innings in relief, helping the Matadors end a three-game losing streak in the tournament.
Northridge (22-13-1) plays Wichita State, ranked 14th nationally by Collegiate Baseball, today in another round-robin game.
In a late game Wednesday, Northridge lost to Hawaii, 6-5.
