From Times Wire Reports
The U.S. Coast Guard and the Colombian navy seized 1,440 pounds of cocaine in a joint operation in waters near the Caribbean islands of San Andres and Providencia, officials said. A U.S. vessel chased a speedboat suspected of carrying drugs and alerted the Colombians when the craft headed into waters around the islands, which are under Colombian jurisdiction. The cocaine was found aboard after the boat was abandoned on a beach on Providencia Island, about 130 miles east of Nicaragua. No arrests were made.
