School District Plans to Buy Building

The Moorpark Unified School District plans to buy a building on Maureen Lane to house its transportation equipment, a move that would allow the district to sell its current bus yard on Los Angeles Avenue.
District trustees said Friday that the building’s current tenant, a company that makes air filtering devices, would stay on, occupying a portion of the site and paying rent.
Trustee David Pollock said the move would also ease a space crunch caused when the old storage facility for maintenance equipment--located on the grounds of the city’s former high school--was razed to make way for a new elementary school.
Since then, the equipment has been kept at the district headquarters at the intersection of Los Angeles and Flory avenues.
Once the purchase is complete, the district plans to declare part of its headquarters property as surplus. District officials may then ask the city to rezone the land for commercial development, a change that could increase the property’s value.
