Golden West Leads State Men’s Swimming Meet

Golden West remains in the lead after the second day in the state community college men’s swimming and diving championships at Hartnell College in Salinas.

Golden West leads with 463 points and Diablo Valley is a distant second with 346. Orange Coast is fourth with 215 points.

Felix Sutanto, Audy Oktavian, Albert Sutanto and Jeremy Pope won the 200 medley relay for Golden West in 1 minute 32.59 seconds, breaking the national record (1:32.98) set in 1992.

Felix Sutanto also set a state record in the 400 individual medley with a time of 3:57.83, breaking the state record of 3:59.69 set in 1983 by Vince Vassallo (Saddleback).

Wisnu Wardhana won the 100 butterfly in 49.05 for Orange Coast, breaking the state record of 49.53 set in 1978 and equaled by Wardhana last year.

In the state women’s swimming and diving championships:

Orange Coast moves into first--Orange Coast overtook Diablo Valley after the second day with 274 points. Diablo has 234. Golden West is fifth with 159.

Sandy Zubrin, a former Corona del Mar High standout, won the three-meter diving for Orange Coast with 387.50 points.

Chintya Ganda won the 50 butterfly in 26.80 for Orange Coast. Emily Hagen, formerly of Marina, finished third. Orange Coast won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:40.34.

Elsa Nasution won the 200 individual medley in 2:03.48 for Chaffey, breaking the national record of 1:52.90 set by Elfira Nasution (Chaffey) in 1989.

In the Southern California women’s tennis regionals:

Erickson, Gilliam advance--Cami Erickson and Whitney Gilliam won their singles matches to advance to the round of 16 at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert. Erickson and Gilliam also teamed to win their second match in doubles.
