Piranha update--Anaheim won its two exhibition games by a combined score of 90-60. Mike Hohensee, first-year coach, used the preseason to sort out his quarterback position. He looked at three quarterbacks before deciding on Ron Lopez, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in two quarters of work. Hohensee also decided Bryan Reeves and Shannon Culver should switch positions. Reeves had been playing receiver and defensive back, but he will start at offensive specialist (offense only) tonight. Culver will play receiver and defensive back. Last year, the Piranhas won their first seven games before losing.
Red Dog update--New Jersey, one of three Arena League expansion teams, is having injury problems at quarterback, easily the most important position in Arena Football. Starter Aaron Garcia has bruised ribs and is questionable, leaving Carlos Garay or Ricky Foggie to start. Receiver/defensive back Alvin Ashley is the Red Dogs’ deep threat. He had 971 receiving yards and 951 return yards with Minnesota last season.
