KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban religious police reiterated a ban on using paper bags and wrappings Wednesday, saying residents in the Afghan capital were ignoring the order and could face “serious punishment.”
Only plastic bags are allowed in the two-thirds of the country controlled by the Taliban religious army, which has imposed its strict version of Islamic law.
The Taliban says recycled paper may include pages of the Muslim holy book, the Koran.
