VAN NUYS — A North Hollywood man who beat his wife after she refused to make a 2 a.m. beer run for him pleaded no contest Thursday to a charge of spousal battery, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said.
Municipal Judge Carol Koppel sentenced Julio Cesar Maraver, 43, to 270 days in County Jail for the beating, which took place at the couple’s North Hollywood apartment Dec. 28, authorities said.
Maraver was also placed on three years’ summary probation, requiring him to undergo domestic violence counseling and stay away from his wife of eight years.
Maraver had two previous convictions for spousal battery including one on Dec. 14, 1994, when he was sentenced to 32 days in jail. Later, on April 30, 1996, he was convicted and incarcerated for 60 days.
In the latest incident, police said, Maraver had been drinking heavily and demanded that his wife go to the store for more beer.
When she refused, believing that her husband had had enough, Maraver struck her four times in the face with a closed fist, leaving her bruised and bloodied, said Deputy City Atty. Kenneth Tso.
