Laguna Schools Get O.C. Loan

The Orange County Board of Education on Thursday approved a $3-million loan intended to alleviate Laguna Beach Unified School District’s financial woes by the end of next year.

Board members unanimously approved loaning the troubled district the funds after hearing that financial problems the district suffered earlier this year have been remedied.

The $3 million will be repaid to the county district from property tax receipts, said John L. Nelson, county associate superintendent.

“We don’t foresee any other problems at this time,” Nelson said. “The district is fine and solvent, and we expect them to stay that way.”
