87 Kurdish Rebels in N. Iraq Killed

From Times Wire Reports

Turkish troops pressed deeper inside northern Iraq in the second day of a cross-border offensive against Kurdish rebel camps. Eighty-seven rebels and one soldier were killed, the military said. U.S. planes patrol the skies over the region to protect the Kurds from attack by Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s military, but those flights have been halted for the past “couple of days” because of previously scheduled training flights in Turkey, a U.S. European Command spokesman said. Iraq is demanding the immediate withdrawal of Turkish troops.
