Four-Star Films : ‘Bringing Up Baby’

Now that Katharine Hepburn (pictured) has turned 90 it’s fitting that Howard Hawks’s “Bringing Up Baby,” one of the definitive ‘30s screwball comedies, shows up on the tube to offer one of the best of many proofs of why she has been an American institution for so long. Hepburn made only one foray into screwball, but in this hilarious 1938 classic she is sublime as a madcap heiress--natch--who nonchalantly turns upside down the ordered life of Cary Grant’s (pictured) absent-minded paleontologist (AMC Friday at 2 and 11:45 p.m.).
