Arts Plaza Evacuated in False Fire Alarm

An apparent malfunctioning smoke alarm forced the evacuation of dozens of employees from the Civic Arts Plaza on Tuesday afternoon.
“There’s no fire, no smoke,” said Ventura County Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Estrada. “It’s an apparent false alarm.”
About 2:30 p.m. a smoke detector in the plaza’s Forum Theatre went off, prompting the evacuation, Estrada said.
After 15 minutes, city planners, managers, ticket sellers and residents were allowed to return to the smoke-free building.
