Two OCC Teams Win Academic Awards
Two Orange Coast College sports teams are among nine statewide to be honored by the California Community College Commission on Athletics for maintaining high grades for the fall 1996 athletic season.
Men’s cross country was honored for maintaining a 3.15 grade point average, as was the men’s water polo team, which maintained a 3.14 average.
To qualify for the Scholar Team Award, the team’s average must be at least 3.0, or a B, on a 4.0 scale.
Orange Coast was the only college in Southern California to win. The awards were announced in May.
Sixty teams statewide have earned the Scholar Team Award since it was first bestowed in 1991. OCC teams have won a record 14 times.
