Tigers Show Pride in Win Over the A’s

DETROIT — Curtis Pride’s two-run single in the eighth inning helped rally the Detroit Tigers to a 4-2 victory Wednesday over the Oakland Athletics.
Pride’s bases-loaded single off Mike Mohler capped a three-run rally that gave the Tigers a sweep of the two-game series. The Tigers had tied the score on pinch-hitter Jody Reed’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly. After an intentional walk to Melvin Nieves re-loaded the bases, Pride slapped a single to right scoring Phil Nevin and Tony Clark.
Doug Brocail (1-4) pitched two scoreless innings for the victory. The Tigers saluted the Stanley Cup champion Red Wings in a ceremony during the game.
