OXNARD — A 50-year-old woman remained hospitalized in fair condition with a severe left eye injury following a two-car accident Thursday evening.
Mary Youngdahl of Oxnard was treated at St. John’s Hospital after debris from the accident got into her eye, according to a nursing supervisor.
California Highway Patrol Officer Steve Neumann said Youngdahl was traveling westbound on Pleasant Valley Road, just east of Rice Road, when an eastbound car driven by Rhonda White-Cubitt, 29, swerved into Youngdahl’s lane and sideswiped her.
White-Cubitt, also of Oxnard, was attempting to pass another eastbound motorist, Neumann said.
“She failed to get back into that eastbound lane in time,” he said.
White-Cubitt refused medical attention, according to Neumann.
The accident is under investigation, and White-Cubitt was not cited at the scene, Neumann said.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts and neither had passengers, he said.
Neumann said Youngdahl was driving 40-45 mph in a 55 mph zone while White-Cubitt’s speed had yet to be determined.
