Cost Overruns Triple for Space Station

WASHINGTON — Cost overruns for the international space station have reached $219 million, triple what they were in April 1996, according to a U.S. government analysis made available Thursday. The analysis by the General Accounting Office also said the cost needed to get the much-postponed space station back on schedule has increased in the same period of time by nearly 50%.
The escalating cost and slipping schedule were due to money problems in Russia, the analysis said.
